Baylor College of Medicine Academy at James D. Ryan MS is a unique Biomedical Magnet School that offers a rigorous health science-based curriculum to students. With project-based and hands-on learning, high school credits in 7th and 8th grade, and exposure to pathways in biomedical science, our students have the opportunities to become college and career-ready at an early age. Every class taught at Baylor College of Medicine Academy at James D Ryan MS is Advanced. We provide a unique and accelerated curriculum and real-world experiences in science and health, with the goal of preparing our students for success at DeBakey High School for Health Professions, or any other rigorous and prestigious high school.

 

 It is highly recommended that you apply during Phase 1, as Phase 2 applicants are considered on a space-available basis.

Baylor College of Medicine Academy at James D. Ryan is open to all students residing within HISD. Transportation will be provided for students who have qualifications and reside within HISD.  There is no testing matrix required to enroll in our health science program.

  • We accept incoming 6th and 7th grade students.

  • What is the application timeline?

    Phase 1 will of the application will open sometime in the late fall to early winter of each school year.

    New this year: Once all in-district applicants have been accommodated, out-of-district applicants will be included in the Phase 1 lottery. 

    Families will learn lottery results in the spring.  

    Phase 2 will then open in late spring to the end of the school year.  

    All families may apply for available seats through the end of the school year.

    Families new to HISD may apply for available seats in early August. 

  • Who Should Apply in Phase 1?

    • Current HISD families that prefer their child to transfer to another HISD school for the upcoming school year
    • Families that will be new to HISD in the upcoming school year
    • Families that are seeking to apply to a specific program that is not available at their child’s current and / or zoned school
    • Families with a child in a transitional grade
    • Families who want to enroll in their zoned neighborhood school
    • Families that have moved away from their formerly zoned HISD school
    • Out-of-district families seeking to attend a HISD school in the upcoming school year
